【後学期,1~2年,比較,2単位,,文教育学部1号館401室】This course introduces students to American history by studying the role of religion in that history. It will also introduce students unfamiliar with Christianity to some of the basic ideas, beliefs, and practices of those religions. The diversity of early American religious history is highlighted, for it involved people who were not originally part of Western religion, like the Indigenous people of North America and people brought over from Africa as slaves, as well as European colonists. Students will learn about the various ways religion and religious history can be studied from the secondary sources (scholarly articles) assigned each week, all of which have a different approach in interpretation as well as subject matter. Students will also learn how to interpret history on their own by reading at least one primary source each week.
